Olympic Dressage Star Dujardin Given One-year Ban For Whipping Horse
- Three-time Olympic dressage gold medallist Charlotte Dujardin was Thursday banned for a year following a horse-whipping controversy that led to her withdrawal from the Paris Games.
Three-time Olympic dressage gold medallist Charlotte Dujardin has been suspended for two months by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) following an incident where she was filmed whipping her horse, Valegro, during a training session. The video, which surfaced on social media, showed Dujardin using a whip excessively, leading to widespread criticism and an investigation by the FEI. Despite her suspension, Dujardin, who has since apologized for her actions, will still be able to participate in the upcoming Paris Olympics as her suspension ends before the event. The FEI emphasized the importance of animal welfare in equestrian sports, stating that such behavior is not acceptable and undermines the sport's integrity.
