Ademola Lookman, the former Everton and Fulham forward, has been voted the African Player of the Year for 2023. This accolade comes after an impressive season where he played a pivotal role for Atalanta in Serie A, scoring 13 goals and providing 8 assists in 31 league appearances. His performances helped Atalanta secure a fifth-place finish, earning them a spot in the UEFA Europa League. Lookman, who was born in England to Nigerian parents, chose to represent Nigeria internationally, and his contributions were significant in their Africa Cup of Nations campaign. His recognition as the African Player of the Year highlights his growth from a promising talent in the Premier League to a key figure in both club and international football.
