Padmakar Shivalkar, a legendary left-arm spinner from Mumbai, passed away at the age of 84. Known for his remarkable control and accuracy, Shivalkar played 124 first-class matches, taking 589 wickets at an average of 22.64. He was instrumental in Mumbai's Ranji Trophy successes, contributing to 17 titles, including 12 consecutive wins from 1958-59 to 1970-71. Despite his domestic dominance, he never played for the Indian national team, largely due to the presence of contemporaries like Bishan Singh Bedi and Erapalli Prasanna. His career was also affected by a shoulder injury. Shivalkar was honored with the C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award by the BCCI in 2017. His legacy includes not just his cricketing prowess but also his humility and dedication to the sport.
