Austin debate team competes on international stage
The Westwood High School debate team, based in Mesa, Arizona, has achieved significant success by winning the National Speech and Debate Association's (NSDA) National Championship in the Public Forum Debate category. The team, consisting of seniors Sarah Johnson and Michael Chen, outperformed over 200 other teams to secure the title. Their victory marks the first time a team from Arizona has won this prestigious competition, highlighting their exceptional research, argumentation, and teamwork skills. The duo's success is attributed to their dedication, with countless hours spent preparing and practicing, as well as the guidance of their coach, Mrs. Emily Thompson, who has been instrumental in their journey. This achievement not only brings pride to Westwood High School but also sets a high standard for future debaters in the region.
