Metro Schools first-grader to represent U.S. in international braille competition

Born with detached retinas, Finn Clougherty has inspired both students and teachers at Nashville's Granbery Elementary while excelling academically and winning a state braille competition.

A first-grade student from Metro Schools, Levi Ward, has been selected to represent the United States at the International Braille Challenge in Los Angeles this June. Levi, who is blind, has shown exceptional skill in reading and writing Braille, surpassing expectations for his age group by competing against older students. His mother, Amanda Ward, expressed immense pride in his achievements, noting his dedication and the support from his teacher, Ms. Tami, at Una Elementary School. Levi's participation in the competition highlights his remarkable abilities and the opportunities available for visually impaired students to excel academically.
