Little Haiti Shooting Injures Two
Locale: UNITED STATES

MIAMI, FL - March 9th, 2026 - Miami-Dade Police are currently investigating a shooting incident that left two men injured in the Little Haiti neighborhood early this morning. The shooting, which occurred around 12:50 AM on Monday in the 6800 block of Northeast Second Avenue, has prompted a significant police presence and raised concerns amongst residents about a recent uptick in localized violence.
According to police reports, both victims were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officials confirm that they are expected to recover. The identity of the victims has not yet been released, pending notification of family members.
"We're investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident," stated Miami-Dade Police spokesperson Erika Lara during a brief press conference held near the scene. "Detectives are actively canvassing the neighborhood, interviewing potential witnesses, and collecting any available evidence. We are committed to bringing those responsible for this act to justice."
As of this reporting, no arrests have been made. Police are urging anyone with information regarding the shooting to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477) or online at [ https://crimestoppersmiami.com/ ].
Rising Concerns in Little Haiti
The shooting comes at a time when residents of Little Haiti have expressed growing unease about public safety. While the neighborhood has historically been known for its vibrant culture and strong community bonds, a series of isolated incidents over the past six months have sparked a debate about the need for increased resources and preventative measures. Community leaders held an emergency meeting last week to discuss strategies for addressing the rising concerns, including increased neighborhood watch programs and improved street lighting.
"This shooting is deeply troubling, but unfortunately not entirely unexpected," said Marie Joseph, president of the Little Haiti Community Association. "We've been voicing our concerns about a lack of consistent police patrols and the growing presence of gang activity. We need more than just reactive policing; we need proactive initiatives that address the root causes of violence."
Joseph pointed to the socio-economic challenges facing many residents of Little Haiti, including poverty, unemployment, and a lack of access to educational and recreational opportunities, as contributing factors to the recent increase in crime. She called for increased investment in community programs that provide job training, mentorship, and after-school activities for young people.
Police Response and Ongoing Investigation
The Miami-Dade Police Department has increased its presence in Little Haiti following the shooting. In addition to the ongoing investigation, officers are conducting targeted patrols in known hotspots and working to build relationships with community members.
Detective Ramirez, leading the investigation, highlighted the difficulty of securing reliable testimony in cases like these. "Witnesses are often hesitant to come forward due to fear of retaliation," he explained. "We rely heavily on forensic evidence and security camera footage to piece together what happened. We are appealing to anyone who may have seen or heard anything, no matter how small, to please contact us."
The investigation is focusing on several possible motives, including a potential dispute between rival groups and the possibility that the shooting was a random act of violence. Authorities are also reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and residences to identify potential suspects and vehicles.
The incident has reignited the discussion about gun violence in Miami-Dade County. Advocates for stricter gun control laws are calling for increased regulation of firearms, while others argue that the focus should be on enforcing existing laws and addressing the underlying causes of crime.
7News will continue to follow this developing story and provide updates as they become available. The community remains on edge, hoping for a swift resolution and a return to peace in the heart of Little Haiti.
