  Lafayette senior outside hitter Maya Witherspoon is All-Metro girls volleyball player of the year for the second season in a row.

Maya Witherspoon, a standout volleyball player from Lafayette High School, has left an indelible mark both on and off the court. Known for her exceptional skills as an outside hitter, she led her team to a state championship in 2023, earning accolades such as the Post-Dispatch All-Metro player of the year. Beyond her athletic prowess, Witherspoon has been recognized for her leadership, academic excellence, and community involvement. She has been a role model for her teammates, often mentoring younger players and participating in community service. Her commitment to volleyball will continue at the collegiate level at the University of Kentucky, where she plans to study kinesiology. Her legacy at Lafayette includes not only her contributions to the volleyball program's success but also her efforts in fostering a positive team culture and community engagement.
