  • After almost nine years following a domestic cricket match-fixing scandal, three more of the seven players implicated in the investigation were arrested late last month.

Thami Tsolekile, the former South African wicketkeeper, along with former Proteas bowler Lonwabo Tsotsobe and ex-Gauteng bowler Paul Mbhalati, were arrested by the Hawks for their alleged involvement in match-fixing during the 2015-2016 Ram Slam T20 competition. The arrests are part of an ongoing investigation into match-fixing that has also seen other cricketers like Alviro Petersen and Jean Symes charged. Tsolekile, who was previously banned for 12 years (reduced to 10 years with 2 years suspended) for his role in the scandal, was accused of soliciting, inducing, enticing, persuading, encouraging, or offering a reward to players to underperform. The charges against Tsotsobe and Mbhalati include contriving or attempting to fix matches, and Mbhalati was also accused of failing to report corrupt approaches. The arrests highlight the continued efforts to clean up cricket from corruption.
