Matt Stevens, a former NFL player and Chapel Hill High School alumnus, passed away at the age of 51. Stevens, who was part of the Washington Redskins' Super Bowl XXVI championship team in 1992, had a brief but notable NFL career, playing in 13 games over two seasons. Before his professional career, he was a standout at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he was a two-time All-American and set a school record for rushing yards by a quarterback. After retiring from football, Stevens returned to Chapel Hill, where he was remembered for his contributions to the community and his time as a beloved local athlete. His death was announced by his family, and he leaves behind a legacy in both sports and community involvement.
