  • Russian-Uzbek billionaire Alisher Usmanov was elected president of the International Fencing Federation at the body's congress in Uzbekistan's capital Tashkent on Saturday, the businessman's representative said.

Alisher Usmanov, a Russian-Uzbek billionaire, has been elected as the president of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) for a four-year term. His election took place during the FIE's congress in Dubai, where he secured 67 votes against 58 for his opponent, French fencer and Olympic champion, Brice Guyart. Usmanov, who has been involved in fencing for over 30 years, previously served as the FIE's first vice-president. His presidency comes at a time when the sport faces challenges due to the ongoing geopolitical tensions, particularly involving the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in international competitions.
