Unified Sports are a global program bringing equity and access to millions of athletes around the world, with and without disabilities.
Unified Sports, a program by Special Olympics, integrates individuals with and without intellectual disabilities into the same sports teams, fostering an inclusive environment that promotes social inclusion, skill development, and mutual respect. Launched in 1988, the initiative now spans over 190 countries and includes sports like basketball, soccer, and bocce. Participants, known as Unified partners and athletes, engage in training and competitions together, breaking down barriers and building friendships. The program not only enhances the athletic abilities of all involved but also emphasizes leadership, teamwork, and community building, aiming to create a more inclusive world through the power of sports.
