Local Swimmers Make Waves: Top 20 District Qualifiers Announced

Monday, February 16th, 2026 - The News-Herald is pleased to announce the top 20 district qualifying swimmers from schools across our coverage area. The recently concluded swimming season has been filled with impressive performances, and these athletes represent the pinnacle of dedication and skill within our local high schools. This list, compiled from our season-long coverage, highlights the individuals who have proven themselves as top contenders, earning their places at the district level.

While this report is based on the News-Herald's coverage and may not capture every qualifying swimmer, it offers a comprehensive overview of the talent blossoming within our community. The dedication shown by these young athletes, their coaches, and supporting families is commendable, demonstrating the strong swimming culture thriving in our region.

North Shore High School Dominates, Lakeside & Euclid Follow Close Behind

Leading the charge is North Shore High School, boasting a powerful team that secured 2nd place overall. Sarah Miller proved to be a force to be reckoned with, qualifying in both the 100m Freestyle (54.23) and the 200m Backstroke (2:15.89). David Chen also showcased his speed and technique, qualifying in the 50m Freestyle (22.51) and the 100m Butterfly (51.75). Emily Rodriguez rounded out North Shore's top performers with strong showings in the 200m Freestyle (2:01.12) and the grueling 500m Freestyle (5:08.30).

Lakeside High School secured a solid 4th place overall, driven by the impressive performances of Michael Brown, who excelled in the 200m IM (2:08.50) and the 100m Breaststroke (1:02.99). Jessica Garcia contributed significantly with qualifying times in the 100m Freestyle (55.87) and 50m Backstroke (30.12).

Euclid High School, finishing 5th overall, saw strong performances from Kevin Lee in both the 100m Freestyle (23.10) and 200m Freestyle (1:55.78). Ashley Kim added to Euclid's success with her qualifications in the 100m Backstroke (1:04.52) and 200m Backstroke (2:24.31).

Mid-Range Powerhouses and Rising Stars

Wickliffe High School (7th overall) showcased the talents of Brian Wilson, a standout performer in the 50m Freestyle (22.85) and 100m Freestyle (49.53). Megan Taylor impressed in the 200m IM (2:28.99) and the demanding 100m Butterfly (1:05.47). Chardon High School, landing in 9th place, was led by Amanda Davis, who qualified in both the 100m Breaststroke (1:10.82) and 200m Breaststroke (2:32.75).

Further down the list, Mentor High School (10th), Riverside High School (12th), Perry High School (14th), Harvey High School (16th), South High School (18th), Fairport High School (19th) and Mayfield High School (20th) all had representatives who demonstrated exceptional skill and determination. Specifically, Ryan Peterson of Mentor highlighted the butterfly stroke, Brittany Clark of Riverside showed promise in sprint freestyle events, and Zachary Hall of Perry demonstrated endurance in the longer freestyle distances.

Looking Ahead: District Championships and Beyond

These qualifying swimmers now set their sights on the District Championships, where they will compete against the best athletes from across the region. The competition is expected to be fierce, but these local swimmers have proven they have the talent and dedication to succeed.
