A male competing against females and using a girls locker room while girls were changing clothing spurred a Department of Education investigation of possible Title IX violations in Oregon.

The U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights is investigating the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) for potential Title IX violations related to its policies on transgender student athletes. The investigation was prompted by a complaint from the Oregon Moms Union, which argues that the OSAA's policy allowing transgender girls to compete in girls' sports might disadvantage female athletes. This policy, which has been in place since 2015, requires transgender students to have undergone hormone therapy for at least one year before participating in sports consistent with their gender identity. The complaint highlights concerns over fairness and safety in sports, suggesting that biological males have physical advantages. The investigation aims to ensure compliance with Title IX, which prohibits sex-based discrimination in educational programs receiving federal funding.
