  • Three-time Olympic skier Mikaela Shiffrin was on tap to secure her 100th World Cup title on Saturday at the Stifel Killington Cup in Killington, Vt., but the 29-year-old crashed while on the second run of the giant slalom competition.

Mikaela Shiffrin, the American alpine skiing star, suffered a knee injury during a downhill race at the World Cup event in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, on January 26, 2024. While attempting to secure a historic 96th World Cup victory, Shiffrin lost control on the landing of a jump, crashing into the safety nets. She was visibly in pain and received immediate medical attention on the course before being airlifted to a hospital for further evaluation. Initial reports suggest an MCL sprain, but more tests were needed to determine the full extent of the injury. This incident has put her participation in upcoming events, including the potential record-breaking win, in jeopardy.
