The article from MSN discusses a legal victory for FIFA in a case involving the Puerto Rican Football Federation (FPF). A U.S. federal judge dismissed most of the claims brought by the FPF against FIFA, CONCACAF, and other soccer bodies. The lawsuit, filed in 2023, accused these organizations of violating U.S. antitrust laws by imposing sanctions on the FPF, which included barring it from international competitions and withholding funds. The sanctions were a response to the FPF's failure to comply with FIFA's governance rules, particularly after the FPF's assembly elected a new president in 2022, which FIFA deemed invalid. The judge's decision to dismiss the majority of the claims was based on the argument that FIFA's rules are necessary for the global governance of soccer, and that the FPF's claims did not sufficiently demonstrate a violation of antitrust laws. However, some claims related to FIFA's alleged interference in the FPF's internal governance were allowed to proceed.
