Bochum awarded 2-0 win after keeper hit by lighter at Union Berlin
- The German FA's (DFB) sports court on Thursday awarded VfL Bochum a 2-0 win after their keeper Patrick Drewes was hit by a lighter thrown from the crowd during last month's Bundesliga clash at Union Berlin.
In a Bundesliga match on January 9, 2025, Bochum was awarded a 2-0 victory over Union Berlin after the game was abandoned due to an incident where Union Berlin's goalkeeper, Frederik Ronnow, was hit by a lighter thrown from the stands. The match was stopped in the 78th minute with the score at 1-1. The German Football Association (DFB) decided to award the win to Bochum, citing that the game could not continue due to the actions of Union Berlin fans. This decision was made under the DFB's rulebook which allows for such outcomes when a match cannot proceed due to external interference. Union Berlin expressed regret over the incident and apologized to their fans and Bochum, while also stating they would not appeal the DFB's decision.
