Sophie Luff named as Somerset Women's first professional captain

Sophie Luff has been named as Somerset Women's first professional captain, for the inaugural season of the new Women's County competition. Luff, 31, played for Somerset's age groups before making her debut for the senior women's team in 2009.

Sophie Luff has been appointed as the first professional captain of Somerset Women's cricket team, marking a significant milestone for the club. This historic decision comes as part of Somerset's commitment to enhancing their women's cricket program, following the introduction of professional contracts for women players in 2020. Luff, who has been with Somerset since 2011, has shown remarkable leadership and performance, notably scoring 351 runs in the 2023 Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy. Her appointment is seen as a step towards building a competitive and sustainable women's team, with aspirations to compete in top-tier domestic competitions.
