Paris Olympians and Paralympians were the big winners of the 25th anniversary Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid, including superstars Simone Biles and Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis.
At the 25th anniversary of the Laureus World Sports Awards held in Madrid, gymnast Simone Biles and pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis were honored as Sportswoman and Sportsman of the Year, respectively. Biles, who returned to competition after a two-year hiatus, secured her sixth world all-around title and four gold medals at the World Championships in Antwerp. Duplantis, on the other hand, broke the world record in pole vaulting three times in 2023, culminating in a jump of 6.23 meters. The awards ceremony also recognized the Spanish women's football team as Team of the Year following their World Cup victory, and tennis player Novak Djokovic received the Laureus Sportsman of the Year award for the fifth time. Additionally, the ceremony celebrated the achievements of wheelchair racer Catherine Debrunner and para swimmer Danylo Chufarov, who were named Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability.
