OC students take part in 'K-Pop" competition

Students in Fullerton take part in a new lively competition, "K-Pop Battle of the Bands." The competition was about more than just music and dancing... the focus was also on Korean culture.

At the 2023 SCSBOA Orchestra Festival held at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, over 1,000 high school students from 24 schools across Orange County participated in a unique competition where they played pop songs instead of classical music. The event, which took place on March 18, 2023, featured performances of hits like "Uptown Funk" by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars, and "Can't Stop the Feeling!" by Justin Timberlake. This innovative approach aimed to engage students and audiences by showcasing the versatility of orchestral music, with judges evaluating the performances based on musicality, technique, and overall entertainment value. The festival not only provided a platform for students to showcase their talents but also highlighted the importance of music education in fostering creativity and community spirit.
