An elementary school student from Virginia, named Daisy Almaraz, won the 2023 National Handwriting Contest organized by Zaner-Bloser, a company specializing in educational materials. Daisy, a third-grader at Pine Spring Elementary School in Falls Church, impressed the judges with her cursive writing of the sentence, "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog," which includes all 26 letters of the English alphabet. Her victory earned her a $500 prize, a trophy, and a trip to the company's headquarters in Columbus, Ohio, for an awards ceremony. Daisy's teacher, Lisa Smith, praised her dedication and hard work, noting that Daisy practiced her handwriting diligently every day. The contest, which has been running for over 30 years, aims to promote the importance of handwriting skills in an increasingly digital world.
