A FOX6 News open records request revealed new information about the investigation into racist behavior at a Waterford Union High School track meet.

At a high school track meet in Waterford, Michigan, on May 5, 2023, a group of students from multiple schools were subjected to racist comments and slurs by a small number of spectators. The incident, which occurred during the Oakland County Championship at Kettering University, involved derogatory remarks directed at Black and brown athletes. Waterford School District Superintendent Scott Lindberg condemned the behavior, stating that such actions are not tolerated and do not reflect the values of the district or the community. The district is investigating the incident and working with law enforcement to identify the individuals involved. The event has sparked outrage and calls for accountability, with many emphasizing the need for a safe and inclusive environment for all student-athletes.
