WIAA reduces football ban for Milwaukee schools after administrative error

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) has reduced the football ban for Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) from two years to one year following an administrative error. The initial ban was imposed because MPS had used ineligible players in a game against Sun Prairie East High School, where players who had transferred from another school played without the required sit-out period. The WIAA Board of Control reviewed the case and decided to lessen the penalty, allowing MPS to resume football activities after the 2024 season. This decision came after it was determined that the error was due to a lack of understanding of WIAA transfer rules by MPS administrators. The reduction in the ban aims to mitigate the impact on student-athletes who were not involved in the administrative oversight.
