This action was in violation of the SEC's revised access to competition area policy, which was updated in May 2023 to enhance safety and security. The policy now includes escalating fines for first, second, and third offenses within a three-year rolling period, with Missouri's fine reflecting a first offense. The game itself was significant as Missouri defeated No. 6 Kansas 73-64, marking their first win over Kansas since 2012. The fine aims to deter such fan behavior, which poses safety risks and disrupts the orderly conclusion of games.
