Chris Ballard, the general manager of the Indianapolis Colts, admitted that the team's strategy of "running it back" with largely the same roster from the previous season was a mistake, following a disappointing 9-8 record and missing the playoffs. Despite this acknowledgment, Ballard did not commit to an aggressive approach in free agency to bolster the team. He emphasized the importance of finding the right players who fit the team's culture and system, rather than just spending money for the sake of it. Ballard highlighted the need for improvement in the offensive line, quarterback position, and overall team depth, but remained cautious about overpaying in free agency, suggesting a balanced approach to team building through both free agency and the draft.
