NASCAR Countersues 23XI Racing, Michael Jordan's Pal Over 'Cartel'

  • NASCAR on Wednesday countersued 23XI Racing, Front Row Motorsports and Curtis Polk-a co-owner of 23XI Racing who is closely tied to fellow co-owner Michael Jordan-in a North Carolina federal district court.

NASCAR has filed a countersuit against 23XI Racing, co-owned by NBA legend Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin, along with Michael Jordan's friend and business partner Curtis Polk, over a dispute involving a land deal in Chicago. The countersuit claims that 23XI Racing and Polk are attempting to back out of a $21 million land purchase agreement for a 6.5-acre plot intended for a new team headquarters. NASCAR alleges that the defendants are using "trumped-up claims" to avoid the deal, which was initially agreed upon in 2022. The plot is located near the United Center, and the lawsuit suggests that the defendants are now trying to renegotiate the terms or exit the deal due to a change in market conditions. NASCAR is seeking damages for breach of contract and other related claims.
