  • US star Ilia Malinin defended his world figure skating title on Saturday with a dominant display on the ice inside Boston's packed TD Garden.

Ilia Malinin, a 19-year-old American figure skater, successfully defended his world title at the World Figure Skating Championships in Montreal, delivering a breathtaking performance that included six quadruple jumps. His routine, set to the "Succession" HBO series theme, featured a quadruple Axel, a jump so challenging that only Malinin has landed it in competition. Despite a slight error on his final jump, his score of 227.79 in the free skate, combined with his short program score, led to a total of 333.76 points, securing his victory. This performance not only showcased his technical prowess but also his artistic expression, earning him praise for his ability to blend complex elements with emotional storytelling. Malinin's win marks him as a standout in the sport, continuing to push the boundaries of what is possible in figure skating.
