  • Trevor Johnson was announced as Spalding's head coach for the school's first ever esports team last month. Johnson started his career in esports as a commentator for the video game Call of Duty. He then helped develop Manchester University's esports program.

Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky, has launched an esports team, marking a significant expansion of its athletic programs. This initiative aims to provide students with new avenues for competition, community engagement, and scholarship opportunities. The university has partnered with the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) to facilitate this venture, offering games like Overwatch, Rocket League, and Super Smash Bros. The program not only focuses on competitive gaming but also emphasizes academic integration, leadership development, and career preparation in the growing esports industry. This move reflects Spalding's commitment to adapting to modern student interests and enhancing the collegiate experience through innovative extracurricular activities.
