  • Now, it has been reported that one Ohio lawmaker has even suggested it should be a felony. State Rep. Josh Williams, R-Sylvania Twp., introduced the O.H.I.O. Sportsmanship Act Tuesday, per a report from Anthony Shoemaker and Erin Glynn of the Columbus Dispatch.

An Ohio lawmaker, State Representative Bill Seitz, has proposed a bill that would make planting a flag on an opponent's field a felony, following an incident during the Ohio State vs. Michigan football game where Michigan players planted their flag on the Ohio State logo at midfield. This act, seen as a provocative gesture, has led to discussions about sportsmanship and respect in college football. The proposed legislation aims to prevent such actions by classifying them as criminal trespassing, with potential penalties including up to 18 months in prison. The move has sparked debate over whether such a law is necessary or if it represents an overreaction to a tradition of rivalry and gamesmanship in college sports.
