NFL executive Troy Vincent said the NFL will consider expanding replay assist to help with certain penalties. Missed facemask penalties are at the top of the list.

The NFL is exploring the possibility of expanding its replay assist system to include reviewing facemask penalties and potentially other fouls, according to discussions at the NFL's annual meetings in Orlando. This initiative aims to enhance the accuracy of officiating by allowing the league's officiating department to intervene in real-time during games. Currently, replay assist is used for reviewing aspects like the line to gain, whether a pass was forward or backward, and if a loose ball touched a sideline or end line. The expansion would involve the league office stepping in to correct clear and obvious errors in penalty calls, similar to how they currently handle other reviewable plays. This move is part of a broader effort to improve the consistency and correctness of game calls, reducing the likelihood of controversial or incorrect decisions affecting game outcomes.
