  • Oklahoma got their guy. After a week of waiting for former Washington State quarterback John Mateer to enter the transfer portal, the dynamic quarterback committed to the Sooners on Wednesday night. He'll reunite with offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle in Norman, as the duo put up huge numbers this season for the Cougars.
Oklahoma has bolstered its quarterback room by securing a commitment from John Mateer, a former Washington State quarterback. Mateer, who entered the transfer portal after the 2023 season, brings experience having played in four games for the Cougars, where he completed 10 of 13 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown. His addition to the Sooners comes at a time when the team is looking to strengthen its depth chart following the departure of key players like Dillon Gabriel and Davis Beville. Mateer will join a quarterback group that includes Jackson Arnold, a highly-touted recruit, and General Booty, providing competition and depth as Oklahoma prepares for the upcoming season.
