- Drivers were reluctant to win the opening stage of the 2025 Dakar Rally and five-time winner Al-Attiyah was not pleased with the circumstances that led to it

He criticized the lack of excitement and the predictability of the route, suggesting that the rally should incorporate more challenging navigation and varied terrain to enhance competition. Al-Attiyah, who finished the stage in 11th place, 23 minutes behind the leader, called for changes to make the event more engaging for both participants and spectators. He specifically mentioned the need for the rally to return to its roots with more dunes and less reliance on road sections, which he believes would make the race more unpredictable and thrilling.
