IIHF apologizes (not really) for horrid officiating that sunk Canada at world juniors
- As everyone knows, if there's one thing we Canadians do more than play or watch hockey, it's apologize. "Sorry" is one of the most used words in our vocabulary. We're sorry for almost getting in someone's way at the grocery store and sorry for having our foot stepped on when we do.
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) issued an apology for the controversial officiating during Canada's game against Czechia at the World Junior Hockey Championship, which resulted in Canada's elimination. The apology came after a series of questionable calls, including a pivotal penalty shot awarded to Czechia in overtime, which they scored to win the game. The IIHF acknowledged the errors in officiating, stating that the officials involved would not officiate further in the tournament. This incident has sparked significant discussion and criticism regarding the quality and consistency of officiating in international hockey, with many fans and analysts expressing frustration over the impact of these decisions on the outcome of such a high-stakes game.
