  • Ferrari was closer to a title in 2024, then at anytime during the past 15 years. However, in the end, the Maranello based squad's efforts were just 14 points shy off McLaren's lead at the flag in Abu Dhabi.

Following Ferrari's defeat at the Australian Grand Prix, team principal Fred Vasseur expressed frustration over the FIA's handling of Carlos Sainz's penalty. Sainz received a five-second penalty for causing a collision with Fernando Alonso, which dropped him from fourth to 12th place. Vasseur criticized the FIA for taking too long to make a decision, stating that the penalty was issued with only two laps remaining, which he felt was unfair as it did not allow Sainz a chance to respond on track. He highlighted the inconsistency and the timing of the FIA's decisions, suggesting that such delays and last-minute calls are detrimental to the sport's integrity. Vasseur also mentioned that Ferrari had waited two months for a decision on a previous issue, underscoring a pattern of slow decision-making by the FIA.
