Despite Simmons' recent performance issues, including missing the entire 2021-22 season due to mental health and back problems, and playing only 42 games in the following season, the Pacers see potential in him. They believe that with the right environment, Simmons could return to his All-Star form, particularly noting his fit with the Pacers' fast-paced, ball-moving style of play. However, the Nets are not keen on taking on long-term salary in any trade, which complicates negotiations. The Pacers are also considering other trade options, including players like Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby, but Simmons remains a focal point in their trade dialogue.
