Five times champion Boe says he will retire before 2026 Winter Olympics

Five-time Olympic champion and world record holder in speed skating, Kjeld Nuis, has announced his retirement from competitive sports before the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo. Nuis, who has won gold in the 1,000 meters at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games and the 1,500 meters at both the 2018 and 2022 Olympics, expressed his decision on social media, stating that he will not be competing in the upcoming Olympics. He reflected on his career, mentioning the physical and mental toll of the sport, and his desire to spend more time with his family. Nuis also hinted at exploring new opportunities outside of speed skating, suggesting a shift in focus towards personal life and other professional endeavors.
