- Chelsea and Arsenal both enjoyed 5-0 wins and Manchester City slumped to a 4-2 derby defeat to Manchester United as the Women's Super League saw some major changes at the top of the table after the competition resumed following the Christmas break.
The Women's Super League (WSL) returned with Chelsea and Arsenal both securing convincing 5-0 victories. Chelsea, the defending champions, dominated against Leicester City with Lauren James scoring twice, while Guro Reiten, Erin Cuthbert, and Sjoeke Nüsken also found the net. Arsenal, on the other hand, crushed Watford in the FA Cup, with goals from Alessia Russo, Frida Maanum, and Stina Blackstenius, among others. Meanwhile, Manchester City, who were expected to challenge for the title, suffered a surprising 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, with Lee Geum-min and Katie Robinson scoring for Brighton, and Laura Coombs getting a late consolation for City. This result has put Chelsea in a strong position at the top of the league, with Arsenal also showing their title credentials.
