MLB makes two new rule changes for 2025 season
- Evan Drellich of The Athletic reported on Thursday that MLB has instituted two new rule changes for the 2025 season. The first rule change is a stiffer penalty for fielders who violate the infield shift rule.
The MLB has introduced two significant rule changes for the 2025 season aimed at enhancing the game's pace and strategy. Firstly, the pitch clock will be reduced by two seconds, from 20 to 18 seconds with runners on base, and from 15 to 13 seconds with bases empty, to speed up the game. Secondly, a new rule will limit the number of mound visits to four per game, down from five, to reduce delays and encourage quicker decision-making. These changes follow previous adjustments like the introduction of the pitch clock and restrictions on defensive shifts, reflecting MLB's ongoing efforts to evolve the game for better viewer engagement and game flow.
