  • The U.S. Open mixed doubles competition will now be played before the singles main draw, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) said on Tuesday as it announced an overhaul of the category's format and an increase in prize money.

The U.S. Open has announced a revamp of its mixed doubles format and an increase in prize money for the 2025 tournament. The mixed doubles event will now feature a condensed 16-team draw, with teams needing to win three rounds to claim the title, down from the previous five. This change aims to make the event more appealing to top players by reducing the time commitment. Additionally, the U.S. Open will increase its overall prize money to $80 million, up from $65 million in 2023, with a significant portion allocated to earlier rounds to support players who might not advance far in the tournament. These adjustments reflect the USTA's commitment to enhancing the event's competitiveness and attractiveness to both players and fans.
