Urbana High claims county Academic Tournament title

  • For Del Hayes, coach of the Urbana High School Academic Tournament team, Friday night offered a chance to go out on top. It was the last tournament for Hayes, who was stepping down from coaching after 18 years guiding Urbana's squad in the competition of County's 10 high schools.

Urbana High School has been recognized as the top academic institution in Frederick County, Maryland, for the 2022-2023 school year, according to the Maryland Report Card. This accolade is based on a comprehensive assessment that includes student proficiency in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science, as well as graduation rates and other educational metrics. The school's success is attributed to a dedicated faculty, innovative teaching methods, and a supportive community environment. Principal Dr. Jennifer Martirano expressed pride in the school's achievement, emphasizing the collective effort of students, teachers, and parents.
