The NBA has officially decided to cancel its experimental All-Star Game mini-tournament format after just one season. Commissioner Adam Silver admitted the format did not work and confirmed that the league would return to the drawing board.
The NBA has decided to revert to its traditional All-Star game format for the 2024 event in Indianapolis, abandoning the innovative "Elam Ending" format after only one season. The previous format, which was introduced in 2020, involved a target score in the fourth quarter rather than a timed period, aiming to increase competitiveness and excitement. However, following feedback and the desire to return to a more familiar structure, the league will now go back to the East vs. West matchup, with standard quarter lengths and timing rules. This change comes after the 2023 All-Star game in Salt Lake City, which, despite the new format, did not meet expectations in terms of competitive play.
