The event, which began on February 23, 2023, featured over 500 athletes from across New York State competing in various winter sports including alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, figure skating, floor hockey, and snowshoeing. The ceremony included a parade of athletes, the lighting of the Olympic cauldron, and speeches from dignitaries, highlighting the spirit of inclusion and the athletes' dedication. The games not only provide a platform for athletes with intellectual disabilities to showcase their skills but also promote community engagement and support for the Special Olympics movement.
