Handfuls of Section V teams advance in spring sports State Tournaments

  Section V teams have had their way with the State Tournament, regardless of sport, this spring. Many of them will play on the final weekend of competition from June 14-15.

A number of Section V teams have advanced in various spring sports state tournaments. In baseball, Fairport and Honeoye Falls-Lima moved on to the semifinals after defeating Lancaster and Williamsville East, respectively. The softball teams from Webster Thomas and Avon also progressed to the semifinals, with victories over Shenendehowa and Gouverneur. In boys lacrosse, Victor and Penn Yan secured their spots in the semifinals by defeating Orchard Park and Lake Shore. On the girls lacrosse side, Fairport and Honeoye Falls-Lima advanced after wins against Massapequa and Bayport-Blue Point. In tennis, Pittsford Sutherland's boys team and Pittsford-Mendon's girls team both reached the semifinals. These teams will now compete for a chance to win state championships in their respective sports.
