According to The Athletic, NBA commissioner Adam Silver and president of league operations Byron Spruell held talks Monday with broadcaster NBC regarding an "international competition" format for next season's All-Star Game.

The NBA is exploring the possibility of replacing the traditional All-Star Game with an international competition that would feature NBA players representing their home countries, according to a report by The Athletic. This proposed format, inspired by the success of international events like the World Baseball Classic, aims to increase global interest in basketball and could potentially be implemented as soon as the 2024-25 season. The change is part of broader efforts by the NBA to enhance the appeal and competitiveness of the All-Star weekend, which has faced criticism for lack of intensity and defensive effort in recent years.
