The Pittsburgh Pirates took steps toward finalizing their Opening Day roster by making a handful of roster moves Saturday, including one that involves a former No. 1 overall pick. The Pirates selected right-handed reliever Hunter Stratton to their major league roster,

The Pittsburgh Pirates made several roster adjustments on Monday, including optioning top prospect Henry Davis to Triple-A Indianapolis, selecting the contract of right-handed pitcher Hunter Stratton from Indianapolis, and designating outfielder Joshua Palacios for assignment. Henry Davis, who was the first overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, had a brief stint with the Pirates, playing in 62 games with a .213 batting average. Hunter Stratton, who has been performing well in Triple-A with a 3.99 ERA, was called up to bolster the bullpen. Meanwhile, Joshua Palacios, who had a .238 batting average in 25 games with the Pirates, was removed from the 40-man roster. These moves reflect the Pirates' ongoing efforts to refine their team composition as they navigate the season.
