Spiders will be among first teams to taste Bill Belichick's Tar Heels

The University of Richmond will be one of the first college football teams to encounter Bill Belichick's North Carolina Tar Heels. The article from Richmond.com discusses the University of Richmond's decision to join the Patriot League for football starting in the 2025 season. This move comes after the university had been a member of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) for football. The transition to the Patriot League, which does not offer athletic scholarships for football, aligns with Richmond's academic and athletic values, focusing on a more balanced student-athlete experience. The university's athletic director, John Hardt, emphasized the fit with the Patriot League's model, which supports a non-scholarship approach to football, enhancing the academic and competitive experience for student-athletes. This shift also reflects a strategic alignment with other sports at Richmond, which are already part of the Atlantic 10 Conference, known for its academic rigor and competitive sports.
