European Super League promoters call on UEFA to recognise Unify League
- The promoters of a proposed European Super League have approached UEFA and FIFA to recognise their new competition they say will be rebranded as The Unify League.
The promoters of the European Super League (ESL) have called on UEFA to recognize their proposed "Unity" league, which they claim would be more inclusive and financially beneficial for European football clubs. This call comes after the European Court of Justice ruled that UEFA and FIFA contravened EU law by blocking the formation of the ESL in 2021. The ESL's new proposal, named "Unity," aims to replace UEFA's current competitions with a multi-divisional format involving 60 to 80 teams, ensuring no permanent members and promoting sporting merit. The promoters argue that this model would generate significantly more revenue, with an estimated 40% increase in funds distributed to clubs, and would also enhance the financial stability of the football pyramid by providing more resources to domestic leagues and grassroots football. They emphasize that UEFA should engage in dialogue to find a solution that benefits all stakeholders in European football.
