Baciuska promoted to Dakar Stage 2 win; storm forces route change
- The Lithuanian driver had originally been classified sixth before being given 12 minutes back
The Dakar Rally faced significant disruptions due to a storm, leading to a route change for Stage 2. Originally, the stage was set to be a 470km loop around Al Henakiyah, but due to the weather, the route was altered to a 100km loop. This change resulted in the cancellation of the original stage, and the times from the shortened stage were used to determine the overall standings. Lithuanian driver Vaidotas Zala initially won the stage, but after a review, Rokas Baciuska was promoted to the stage victory. The rally's organization also had to manage the impact of the storm on the bivouac, with some participants needing to be evacuated. Despite these challenges, the event continued with adjustments to ensure safety and fairness.
