  • Britain's competition regulator fined four sports broadcast and production companies about 4 million pounds ($5.2 million) on Friday for sharing sensitive information about fees for freelance camera operators and sound technicians.

The UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has imposed fines totaling £5.2 million on sports broadcasters Sky UK, ITV, BT, and the Rugby Football Union (RFU) for engaging in anti-competitive practices related to the payment of freelance sports commentators and presenters. The investigation revealed that these organizations had exchanged sensitive information about the pay and conditions of freelancers, which could have led to reduced competition and lower wages for freelancers. Sky UK received the largest fine at £2.05 million, followed by BT with £1.7 million, ITV with £1.4 million, and the RFU with £65,000. The CMA's action aims to ensure fair competition and protect the earnings of freelancers in the broadcasting industry.
