  • After winning its fourth consecutive NCAA team championship, Carter Starocci and Mitchell Mesenbrink have been named two of the three finalists for the Hodge Trophy. The Hodge Trophy is given to the top wrestler in the nation.

Carter Starocci and Mitchell Mesenbrink have been named finalists for the prestigious Hodge Trophy, which is awarded annually to the most dominant college wrestler. Starocci, a junior from Penn State, has an impressive record with three NCAA titles and a 52-match winning streak, showcasing his dominance in the 174-pound weight class. Mesenbrink, a freshman also from Penn State, has made a significant impact in his debut season, going undefeated in dual meets and earning the Big Ten Freshman of the Year award. The Hodge Trophy, established in 1995, considers criteria like record, dominance, bonus-point percentage, and quality of competition. The winner will be announced on March 27, 2023, during the NCAA Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
