WKU's Track and Field team honors late coach at first home meet

  • In a memorable meet, the athletes showcased their determination and skill, all while honoring the legacy of the late Coach Chumbley. This year marked the first competition named in his honor, a fitting tribute to his undeniable influence on the program.

The Western Kentucky University (WKU) track and field team honored their late coach, Jim Vargo, during their first home meet of the season at the WKU Invitational. Coach Vargo, who passed away in January, was remembered for his significant contributions to the team, having coached for 37 years and leading the team to numerous championships. The meet featured various events, with standout performances including Katie Isenbarger setting a new school record in the women's pole vault at 4.25 meters, and the men's 4x400 relay team breaking a 20-year-old record with a time of 3:10.27. The event not only served as a competition but also as a tribute to Vargo's legacy, with athletes and coaches reflecting on his impact and the values he instilled in the program.
